Stephen Ministry

Confidential and Christian Ministry to Those Experiencing Grief

stephenlogo2Stephen Ministers are lay members of our Parish who are specially trained to listen and provide confidential support and encouragement to others who are in need.  Stephen Ministry is distinctively Christian care giving for people going through difficult times or who are other wise in need of support in their lives.

Stephen Ministry is a confidential ministry:  The identity of those receiving care and what takes place in each caring relationship remains private. Do you need someone to listen, pray and stand beside you as you get through a challenging time? Stephen Ministers can be there for you.

Since our first commissioning in May 2006, we’ve commissioned a group of new ministers every other year, in May of 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022…

Stephen Minister Training

Our training series (50 hours) is from Thursday evening, JANUARY 4th, 2024 until end of May 2024. This is a wonderful ecumenical training experience. Complete this APPLICATION as soon as possible, or contact Scott Wright at swright@stfrancisa2.org or 734-821-2121.

St. Francis of Assisi Parish is a team partner with several area congregations that all offer the wonderful ecumenical Stephen Ministry series training class experience (50 hours) in joint together.   Normally St. Francis offers the training hosted at our parish every other year. (Since our first commissioning in May 2006, we’ve commissioned in May of 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022…).

Ministers Provide a Variety of Care Options

  • Crisis Care: new immediate issue
  • Preventative Care: prior to anticipated event
  • Supportive Care: for a friend caring for a loved one
  • Follow-Up Care: after shocks, continued recovery
  • Chronic Care: terminal, never ends
