Protecting Our Children

Protecting God’s Children Training
As part of the response the Bishops have taken to prevent child sexual abuse, all volunteers who work with children are required to participate in an informational training session, known as “Protecting God’s Children” that discusses the issue of sexual child abuse and its prevention.

How to Register?
To register for an upcoming live training session please visit the Virtus website, Virtus.org Protecting God’s Children, on sight training.  If you need assistance in registering please contact stfreled@stfrancisa2.org (Julie Kanitz or Helena Bichakjian), secretary at 734-821-2130. When you arrive at the workshop please be sure to sign-in. The Diocese of Lansing is required to keep records attendance for the diocese’s annual audit. At the end of the training, you will receive a certificate of completion. Please turn in a copy of this certificate to the Religious Education Office.

Are you Volunteering and plan to attend a live training session?
It is preferably to attend a live training session, however if you are planning to volunteer and unable to attend a live training or a live training session is not available, you may sign up and take the on-line training, on the Virtus website go to http://www.virtusonline.org contact the RE office with your certificate of completion.

After you have completed the Virtus class or on-line session then other forms need to be completed, Catechist Personal Information, (in Rel. Ed. office), Employee and Volunteer Criminal Background Check Disclosure and Authorization form (in office or website) www.DIOCESEOFLANSING.ORG), Diocese of Lansing/St. Francis of Assisi Parish Technology Acceptable use Contract (in office) and Catholic Diocese of Lansing Code of Conduct for Clergy, Employees, and Volunteers (in office). We also need a colored copy of your driver’s license. We will keep these records in our Religious Education Office.

Please submit paper forms to the RE office. Please contact the RE office for questions and after you complete the on-line Virtus e-mail the Certificate to stfreled@stfrancisa2.org or  call 734-821-2130.
