“ArborVitae Women’s Center”
ArborVitae Women's Center is a project of Pregnancy Help Center, a caring community of staff and volunteers who empower women facing unexpected pregnancies. Since 1972, we have provided thousands of articles of clothing, equipment, diapers, cribs, food, and community referrals to underprivileged families.  (And, we continue to do this work at our Packard Rd. location.)

Our life-affirming organization will soon expand a medical clinic offering free clinic-quality pregnancy testing, limited obstetrical ultrasound, and lay counseling services for women facing unexpected pregnancies.

Every woman has the right to complete information on her fertility, her pregnancy, fetal development, abortion and its aftermath, sexual behavior, and sexually transmitted infections. Armed with this information and with the real-time spiritual, emotional and material support of our volunteers, each woman can make a truly informed and positive choice.

Volunteers are needed at Pregnancy Help Center on the 3rd or 4th Thursday of every month from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.  Duties include giving diapers, baby clothes, blankets and baby equipment to moms in need.  This is a very rewarding volunteer experience.  Please contact:  Suzanne Abdalla (734-975-4357)             or, Cathie Curran at 973-0300 or 429-4674  .   Thanks you.

St. Francis Parish Home

History of PHC (As of September 2005 it is formerly known as PPH)
PPH began in the fall of 1970 when the newly formed Right To Life group was asked that they were doing to help women keep their babies. They agreed that simply telling people that abortion is wrong was not enough and they rose to the challenge by founding PPH. Three women, including St. Francis parishioner Pat Kay, started distributing used baby equipment and clothing from a basement. They also started a 24 hour phone hotline which they covered themselves. By 1984, PPH opened a Maternity Home for teens, Father Pat Jackson House, and the distribution center was moved to its basement. The maternity home became a separate organization in 1993, leaving PPH free to continue concentration on the phone line and distribution center, and to launch new outreach programs. We moved the distribution center to a larger and more accessible site at 3150 Packard Rd., Ann Arbor 48108.

We very much appreciate the support of the St. Francis parishioners. You have always been generous givers in the special collection and other fundraising events. Thank you.

Problem Pregnancy Help, Inc. (PPH)
PPH is a pro-life, non-profit, non-denominational organization with over 30 years of serving Washtenaw County.  Our services include 24-hour phone counseling, community agency referrals, distribution of material goods and chastity workshops presented to local youth in schools, churches and youth groups.   We carry out these programs efficiently and effectively with a team of about 55 volunteers. About 35 volunteers cover the hot line and 20 other volunteers work at the distribution center, doing administrative work, teaching chastity workshops and special projects.  With one paid director and a part-time equipment manager, we are able to keep overhead costs minimal in order to use our resources for our clients.

--------------------------  --------------------------  --------------------------  --------------------------

We are commemorating over 30 years of Roe v. Wade. The number of aborted babies whose lives have been lost due to that decision approaches 40 million.
Just looking at the demographic career data, we can estimate that 135,000 of the 40 million would have been physicians, 29,00 would have become flight attendants, more than 500,00 school teachers and 165,00 bank tellers. The loss has been incalculable.
Each human person is not a burden to society; rather each child born has the potential to be a great scientist, doctor, priest (or at least) a tax payer!
All human life is valuable because God creates and sustains it in His image and for His purpose. Have you ever done a piece of needle work or woodworking for someone special to you? Or for yourself? You always have a very special place in your heart for that which you created, don’t you? Imagine how God feels when He specifically creates a new human life only to have that life destroyed by one of His own creations. We fail to reflect that value He imparts.
What does God say about life? God made us in His image (Genesisn1:27). That means we have rational, moral and volitional qualities just like He does – unlike any other created being. God originated human life (Genesis 1:26-27), and He sustains it. Psalm 139:15-17 says that He superintends every life from its earliest days in the womb. God has a plan for each human life. He and He alone is in a position to know when that plan has been completed.
Pray and ask God how he views abortion. Ask Him His direction on what you should do about it. Get educated. Read some pro-life literature.  Talk to your children, relatives and friends about abortion. Become familiar with Problem Pregnancy Help so you can refer anyone in a crisis pregnancy. Pray.  Be courageous for God’s children.
Starting Today, Let Others Know You Value Their Lives By:
- Adopting a grandparent (not your own!) and spending time with this senior
- Praying daily for life-facilitators: at pregnancy help centers, hospice, nursing homes
- Donating used baby clothing or volunteering at your local pregnancy help center
- Mentoring a women in an unplanned pregnancy
- Participating in a Special Olympics program
- Baby-sitting or housecleaning for a single mom
- Collecting used furniture, wheelchairs or other needed items and donating them to a nursing home
