  • Committee Volunteers Needed for Habitat
Our current committee members need additional volunteers to help them with their various tasks.  If you can spare a few hours each week to help please call any of the above members.

They have done a marvelous job in the past, but they need your help!

As a reminder, Habitat is not a giveaway program: In addition to a down payment and the monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor -- sweat equity -- into building their Habitat house and the houses of others.

And, that doesn’t happen without the dedication and planning of our various committee members.  Long before any nails are pounded, Catholic House volunteers help with Fund raising, phone calling, and soliciting for lunch meals/money to feed the Saturday building volunteers.  See Committee Members & Volunteers Needed for Habitat

This year, the Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley assigned us (Catholic House group) the task of building the first ACCESSIBLE Habitat House in Washtenaw County.  A power chair user with disabilities will own the house.  To help us with this task we have partnered with the Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living to bring this job to fruition, to help us raise funds for this project and to help spread the news to the community about the need for more affordable, assessable housing.

Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living (AACIL) assists people with disabilities and their families in living full and productive lives.  Their mission is to assure the equality of opportunity, full participation, independent living and economic self-sufficiency of people with disabilities in our community.
Visit their web site at:  www.aacil.org

In keeping with our Catholic House Mission: “Providing social service & knowing the social teaching of the Church is an essential part of Catholic faith...” our Catholic House group is now in the planning process of sponsoring this 2004 Catholic Habitat House, scheduled to start in May, 2004. We are committed to building one house a year to eliminate homelessness in our community "one house at a time".
