The Elizabeth Ministry
Helping Parish Members in Need

Help Us Help Others

How often do parishioners leave a Mass feeling alone and without help in their struggles?  Because we do not know each other well, we often miss the opportunity to help or to ask for help in times of need. St. Francis has a beautiful ministry to address this issue.

We take our name from the Bible story about the Blessed Mother going to help St. Elizabeth after the birth of John the Baptist.  We have joyfully welcomed new babies with some meals for the family, brought dinners to single people just home from the hospital after surgery, prayed with families dealing with serious illness or injury, visited women who are on bed rest due to a difficult pregnancy, and helped people in many other situations where a little support from our community is needed.

Currently, we find out about most of the people we help from Fr. Jim's hospital visits.  But since it is impossible for Fr. Jim to know about everything that goes on with every family in the parish, we need your help in identifying people who could benefit from our ministry.  If you know someone who is in a situation where they would appreciate some home-cooked meals, help with laundry, prayers, etc. please ask them if you could contact the Elizabeth Ministry on their behalf.  Many times people are reluctant to ask for help, but will accept it if it is offered.  If you yourself could use our help, please don't hesitate to ask.  Our mission is to make sure that no one feels alone here at St. Francis.

To contact the Elizabeth Ministry either to ask for help or to join our ministry, please contact the Parish Office (734-769-2550)      .

Elizabeth Ministry - is for all parishioners in need of temporary care!
Are You Experiencing a Life-Changing Event and in Need of Temporary Assistance?

Please consider being part of this beautiful outreach at St. Francis.  The time you invest, is determined by you.  It may be preparing a meal, washing a couple loads of laundry, or saying a special prayer during a fellow parishioner's surgery. As we open our hearts to joining the St. Francis Elizabeth Ministry let us keep in mind the words of Mother Teresa : "I never think in terms of crowds but in terms of persons.  The very fact that God has placed a certain soul in your way is a sign that God wants to do something for her.  It is not chance--it has been planned by God.

If you have any questions or would like to be involved in this ministry, please contact:  Mrs. Mary Clair Wissman (327-9343) (Coordinator of Elizabeth Ministry).
